You have hopefully heard about the importance of seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist after having a baby… But what about during pregnancy?
A visit to a PF physio during pregnancy can help you to treat or avoid prenatal urinary incontinence, pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain and other pregnancy-related hip/pelvic pain. It’s also VERY useful to have a good understanding of your pelvic floor prior to having a vaginal birth. One of the most important skills you can develop in preparation for birth is knowing how to effectively relax the pelvic floor.
A PF physio will not only assess your pelvic floor muscles and teach/provide perineal massage in preparation for birth, but can also look at your overall alignment and help you to move properly and make adjustments are your weight, abdomen and hormones change.
